Book of the Week: Merna Foster’s100 Canadian Heroines

100 More Canadian Heroines

By Elise Cotter

This week’s book of the week is more of a double whammy.

On September 7th, Canadian Historian, Merna Forster, released 100 More Canadian Heroines: Famous and Forgotten Faces featuring the stories of Canadian women who have, in so many different ways, played an important role in this country’s history.

The book is a sequel to her 2004’s release of 100 Canadian Heroines: Famous and Forgotten Faces.

In a recent Victoria News article, Forster explained to journalist Rudy Haugeneder, that her motivation for both books was quite simple: “Not enough women have been commemorated in Canadian history.”

Among the women featured are activist, artists, politicians, and doctors, I’m sure most of us were never aware existed, but have had managed extraordinary accomplishments despite the most difficult odds.

Let us know what you think.
